# The town crier

The town crier in CAS Telegram — pay to broadcast one notice to every player on the server, kept on a notice board for anyone who was offline.

A player pays the crier and one notice reaches every player on the server. It does not matter whether their device is open.

Every notice is then kept on the notice board, so a player who was offline can still read it when they come back.

## Settings

```lua
Config.Broadcast = {
    Enabled = true,
    Price = 25,
    MaxLength = 160,
    Cooldown = 600,
    BoardSize = 40,
    KeepDays = 7,
}
```

| Setting     | What it does                                                          |
| ----------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `Enabled` | Set to `false` to remove the feature from the device. |
| `Price`     | Charged per notice.                                                   |
| `MaxLength` | Longest notice, in characters.                                        |
| `Cooldown` | Seconds one player must wait before crying again. |
| `BoardSize` | How many notices the board shows. |
| `KeepDays` | How long a notice stays before it is removed. `0` keeps them forever. |

{% hint style="warning" %}
`Cooldown` and `Config.RateLimits.broadcast` do the same job and should agree. If you shorten one, shorten the other:

```lua
Config.RateLimits.broadcast = { count = 1, seconds = 600 }
```

{% endhint %}

## Where players use it

Two places, both opening the same window:

* The **Crier** button at the top of **Wires**.
* The **Cry a notice** button on the **Notices** board.

## Anonymous notices

A notice cried from an anonymous or burner line shows that line's number instead of a name, and leaves no number on the board to answer. A notice from an ordinary line can be answered with one button.

## Who does not hear it

A player with **Quiet hours** set to **Always quiet** is not disturbed. The notice still goes on the board for them to find.

A player holding several numbers hears it if any one of them is not silenced.

## Pricing it

The default of 25 with a ten minute wait keeps the board readable. Lower the price and players will use it for chatter. Raise it and it becomes something gangs and businesses use for real announcements.
